This sounds like a situation where you are going to need to meet with an attorney and let the attorney look over your paperwork. Just because a deed is recorded does not necessarily mean it is valid or properly transferred title to property. But what actually happened in this situation is going to depend in large part what the documents look like. You should arrange to meet with an attorney.
